Sandy's Devotional

Aug 24, 2020 • By Be'ad Chaim

DEVOTIONAL:

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. (Philippians 2:1-4)

We are called to imitate the humility of the Messiah. There are three important concepts here:

  • Unlike the world’s perspective, we are not to think more of ourselves than others, but to realize that God has created each of us in His love. Each person is special, unique, and is to be loved and respected.
  • We cannot think less of ourselves than God does. He loves each of us, and accepts us, has forgiven us, justified, redeemed and renewed us. Let us accept and forgive ourselves.
  • When we see others from His perspective, it should cause us to care about them, seek ways to serve and help them, considering the needs of others. Everyone should be respected and no one should be looked down upon as unimportant.
