Sandy's Devotional

May 28, 2019 • By Sandy Shoshani

“When the priest Pashhur son of Immer, the official in charge of the temple of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things, he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at the Lord’s temple….

“You deceived me, Lord, and I was deceived; you overpowered me and prevailed. I am ridiculed all day long; everyone mocks me. Whenever I speak, I cry outproclaiming violence and destruction. So the word of the Lord has brought me insult and reproach all day long. But if I say, “I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name, “his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”  (Jeremiah 20:1-2, 7-9)

Jeremiah spoke what God told him to prophesy, but the result was that he was mocked, rejected, thrown into prison and beaten. He wanted to stop speaking for God, but his heart was too full of the presence and power of God to be quiet. Those of us who love God, and believe in the sanctity of life in the womb, have no choice but to speak for the TRUTH. It is not an option to tell this perverse generation that God has created every child in the womb for His glory and in His image. It is not an option to “be politically correct” and say that women have the right to choose whether a baby will live or die. Only God has that power. May God give us the strength, grace and courage to stand against the torrents of deception in this generation among whom we appear as lights. “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world as you hold forth the word of life, in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.…” (Philippians 2:14-16)
